Last night I went out with my beautiful friend to celebrate her birthday. We talked about our lives, how much has changed since we saw each other last and trying to live happy lives. Sometimes I wonder how some of the most wonderful, caring people stumble into your lives. All I know is that I am so grateful to be surrounded with such beautiful people, inside and out.
We drank wine and ate scrumptious pizza at Nomad Pizza in Philly. It was my first time there, and what a cute little place! The pizza was fabulous. We shared the mushroom pizza, which was crafted to perfection. The pizzas are pretty decent in size, so it was more than enough. We also had the arancini — risotto balls filled with mozzarella and basil and deep-fried served with a marinara sauce and an arugula salad. I’ve always wanted to try arancini, and it did not disappoint. Highly recommended.
For dessert, I surprised her with a little birthday cake. We didn’t sing… that would have been awkward since it’s just the two of us. I made her a chocolate cake using iambaker‘s recipe and filled it with a salted caramel custard and covered it in whipped chocolate buttercream. I was very proud of this little cake because my decorating skills are improving! The buttercream was not agreeing with my at first, but with patience and understanding, the cake started to come together.
Frosting and I have not always been good friends. We got into a lot of fights, and I’ve treated him like dirt… yelling, screaming and throwing him around like a rag doll. As of late, I’ve been taking better care of my frosting, and he has shown me how delicate he can be. We’re getting to know each other better every day, so I expect more beautiful cakes to come.
Overall, what a great night with a great friend. Good food, better friends. What else could you possibly want in life?
Happy birthday, babe! ❤
